Proud to be an Okie from Muskogee!

Við óskum hinum nýja 19 ára borgarstjóra Muskogee velfarnaðar í starfi og vonum að þessi litla og vinalega borg haldi áfram að vaxa og dafna.  Það er ekki á hverjum degi sem Muskogee kemst í alheimsfréttirnar, enda hálfgerður Hvolsvöllur þeirra Bandaríkjamanna, meira segja á Oklahoma mælikvarða.  Mér þótti þó alltaf gaman að koma við í Muskogee í gamla daga þegar ég fór í sunnudagsbíltúrinn og hlustaði ég þá gjarnan á kántrístjörnuna Merle Haggard sem gerði bæinn ódauðlegan með þessu lagi sínu.

Leather boots are still in style for manly footwear;
Beads and Roman sandals won't be seen.
Football's still the roughest thing on campus,
And the kids here still respect the college dean.
